Found this on a website/blog of a guy that used to hang out in an American punk Rock scene. Thought it was funny: The night the Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten spoke a few words to me. PIL played one night at a club Bogarts in Cincinnati. I knew the manager of the club. He let me work “security” for a few shows I wanted to see. I’d get maybe 50 bucks and some beer and pizza. At the P.I.L show, my job was to stand in between the stage and the wooden barrier built just to protect Johnny Rotten. I was supposed to be looking out at the crowd. Instead, of course, I watched the show. Mr. Rotten saw me looking at him instead of the audience. He locked eyes with me and said, ”Get back to work.” That’s my Johnny Rotten story. Thanks - it is funny. I can just picture John telling him to get back to work. And, truthfully, John probably felt he needed the protection! Joan Joan - you're right! And after having been hit with everything from beer, to change, bottles to even a high-heeled shoe to the noggin' while on stage, John was absolutely correct in telling him to go back to work. He could have even said, as he so eloquently told Tom Snyder "surely you know your history of us, prompt, do your business!!!"

Okay so here is my irrelevant thought....
Why do so many people think it was John's job to save Sid? There were a lot of people who were his friends, such as Steve Jones, Paul Cook, Glen Matlock, The rodies in the UK etc that also did not fly over and rush to Sid's aid in NY after Nany died. Why do so many people rag on John about it?
Oh, and Alan Parker going on about how Malcom went to NYC and poster bail so that means he cared? Well....in the Sex Pistols nsider book, which has the diary entries of Sophie the Glitterbest secretary, it mentions that: 1. When Nancy died Malcom immediatly started selling the "She dead, I'm alive, I'm yours," shirt 2. When getting a lease for an apartment for Sid in 1977 Sophie said to Malcom...the lease will run out in1984. Malcoms response? "Well Sid will be dead by then so it's fine."
Yup...really caring guy

Yup...really caring guy How the hell did I miss THIS post? Yeah, I agree. It was NOT John's responsibility at all and I hate that so many have tried to make it seem that way. Parker can kiss my ass, Malcolm didn't give one flying fuck about Sid other than protecting his money tree. Clearly he and Westwood saw an opportunity in the Sid/Nancy tragedy to capitalize on the poor kid one last time. How sick. What REALLY pissed me off was when Malcolm implied that HE could have saved Sid if only John hadn't been suing him at the time and therefor he couldn't travel to pick Sid up when he made bail. In other words, blaming John once again. And Parker has the audacity to imply that John's tears were fake in TFATF. FUCK HIM. AND let it be known that the "caring" manager and Sid's dear sweet Mommy were the ones that would not allow John to call Sid after his arrest. John has stated that Sid had let it be known that he wanted to talk to John and John DID want to talk to him as well, but Malcolm and Mrs. Beverly would not allow it, so Sid probably died thinking John never wanted to get in touch with him. That is the saddest and most infuriating shit of all.

John doesnt really speculate, but I think that they saw John as a strengthening influence on Sid. If John could have gotten through to him and gotten him that lawyer, he might have no longer been obligated to make the money for Malcolm that he was obligated to do to pay for the bail money Malcolm spent for him (as well as the money Malc spent on Ma Vicious). John would never have made a slave of Sid, but would have helped him achieve independance from both Malcolm and his habit. John would have encouraged him to be straight, and given him a position with PiL in some way probably or helped him form his own band. After all John states in his book that Sid was the only member of the Pistols to have the balls to reallly get behind his songs Religion and Public Image. John was dangerous to the plan Malcolm no doubt had of exploiting the tragedy of Nancy's death and Sid's role as 'bad ass girlfriend killer'. If Sid were proven innocent Malcolm would have lost all of his publicity steam. Think about it. John was trying to be a friend, a word Malcolm didn't understand.

I wonder why John got on the abortion kick during the most recent concerts... ...? It always made me uncomfortable (even though I certainly hope he was joking) when he would ask if the audience thought he should have been aborted.......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BABBBBBBBBBBBBY

I remember his comment at SF in '78 during Bodies was something like "I'm an abortion, what does that make you?" I recall a relatively recent interview where he commented that his parents weren't yet married when he was born (or maybe had gotten married shortly before his birth). If that is true, it could make a person question whether or not their parents might have considered abortion. If he mentions it more a recent concerts, he may just be looking for some confirmation from the audience that they are happy he was born. Maybe just still a little bit of insecurity on his part. But I definitely agree with you - I'm very happy that John's mother did not make the choice to abort this child! If she were still here, she would say the same. John is lucky to have had a mother that loved him very much. Joan

Two separate interviews I have just watched, one from 1986 the other from 1989 and in both John states that the whole "2 and a half minutes" sex thing he said in the seventies has given way to EXPERIENCE He stated "but I was young and inexperienced when I said that, that has all changed now" ;D ;D ;D JOHNNNNNNNNNNNY............I so love that he has publicly stated what I always knew.........GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Yes - I remember watching one video in particular where the interviewer said something about the 2 & 1/2 minutes and John quickly responded with a " Well, I was young - I've improved on my technique." or something to that extent. The interviewer was pleasant & commented, " oh, I was going to ask how you managed to last that long." Cute as John kind of looked down & seemed somewhat embarassed. I imagine that any number of women would have gladly helped him to improve on his technique - though Nora probably got to handle that. Handle the improvement, I mean, not his . . . but then I guess she would had to . . . Well I better stop. . . . Joan

Joan In the interview I mentioned from 1996 (press conference), someone asked if there was tension between John and Glen still because John had in the past called Glen a "Momma's Boy"..... .....John stated before Glen could answer "At least he still has a mother, some of us don't".... ......the press didn't really know what to say with that .. ....uneasy silence.... ......OH BABBBBY
