Okay so I shall stumble through the first review... ..which really isn't a review as I know nothing about musicianship and all that. All I know is Elisabeth and I got to Brixton Academy around 6 pm. The doors open at 7 and of course there was already a line halfway down the street. So much for front row we thought. It was cold and raining . There were news crews taking pictures and talking to the most drunk fans in the line which I thought was hysterical. We saw several "Sid's" . Finally they let us in and we ran into the "standing" area. NO ONE on the front row yet!! Elisabeth and I made a dash and took front row pretty much center . We were just in shock and really didn't believe that soon we would be seeing "our guys". We waited excruciatingly through The Cribs, then a DJ that played every record he owned and a few he didn't. Finally they played over the speaker system "There Will Always Be An England" (if that is the name of it, sorry we are not from England ) ........and out came John (and the guys ).......you will forgive me if I could not tear my eyes away from Rammy (who was first out) and John... .....just couldnt' believe they were right in front of me. John had on an outfit that could only be described initially as....... ........green. We heard a guy behind us say "where DO you get those outfits Mate?" And though in all the pictures so far I have seen on line you can't tell it, his "package" was clearly visible when he walked directly in front of us He had the bulge going...... ;D They sounded AMAZING and John was in very playful form. The set list has been laid out in many places, but suffice it to say they played everything from NMTB as well as "Did You No Wrong", "Belsen was a Gas", "No Fun", and "Stepping Stone"..... .....notably during the song "New York" John sings "Do the RAMBO" and points at Rammy... ......he subsequently did this every night..... Rammy never reacted . I should mention that being on the front row meant we got the hell squeezed out of us and I kept looking at Rammy like "HELLLLLP " and he kept looking at me like "Well, what did you expect? " John just looked at me with kind of a quizzled expression (cross between quizzical and puzzled ) John acknowledged our rather well endowed Elisabeth by pointing to his own chest and widening his pretty blue eyes at her..... ....she was embarrassed but I was proud for her... ...he NOTICED her...........dammit.......what more could you ask in this life? After GSTQ, Anarchy, and Belsen..........they left.. ...with John doing a little dance and giggling with Rammy (he tried to get him to join in but Rammy was having none of it)... ..... . God what a night.... .....I was bruised head to toe but way happy Up next my twisted take on Friday

I should add that after the show we were "interviewed" for a paper in Montreal, Canada. The young female reporter said she was very impressed with John I was also approached by a rather inebriated fan who told me "I really like your look".... .....This was the end of the show, my hair was all over and standing up in weird ways, my makeup smeared all over my face, and my clothes soaked with beer and sweat and God knows what else..... ....bless his heart

Hahaha loved the enthusiastic review, and the "rather inebriated fan" compliment

That was great for Elizabeth.. the girl was lucky... Well I guess I`ll have to dream until some guys from certain music channel called Rock`n`pop (an argentinian music channel) say that Sex Pistols are coming down south america if only that happened

Rofl at "...then a DJ that played every record he owned and a few he didn't" ^^although it didn't seem that funny then. Again Snoogans4Jay's review sums everything up perfectly. I loved the band's great entrance, you could really feel the anticipation in the air. I was really impressed by the way they came onstage! I think the first night might have been my favourite from the bunch, Snoogans4Jay is right, Johnny was very playful! I'm a bit sad that I'm not British and therefore can never understand the patriotic side of the shows. The band is great, they really were great, each and every one of them..BUT I've always admired Steve's guitar playing and was hoping to see him be a bit more full of energy on stage (and by that i don't mean shaking his ass), so I was a bit dissapointed when he didn't deliver. Anyway I spent most of the show in utter confusion Don't think Johnny was much too happy with me for some reason, because later in the show he gave me one of his infamous stares, which didn't help to solve my confusion at all. XD It's difficult to put it into words, it was just so much more I ever could've hoped for. I really honestly do hope that everyone on this board will get to see them!

Snoogs and Elisabeth - thanks for the detailed reviews. Sounds like you guys had a great time - front row seats, Elisabeth's acknowlegement by John, Rammy yards away, John so close, getting to see the family, and on and on. This is incredible! If you've left anything out, please be sure to write more. We don't care about ramblings, Enquiring Minds need to know all the details!!! And remember, we've heard about (1) John (2) Rambo (3) Steve - what did you think about Cookie's drumming? Oh and there's one other person whose name escapes me at the moment that you just gotta write about as well. What's his name, what is it, what is it, the cleanly one? P.S...Could someone explain to me this is all about? :oAwful isn't the word: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIfFUDt4Grw

Hey Elisabeth, being English perhaps I can help you understand the Patriotic side of the shows!? Basically John and the 'boys' spent their teen years growing up under a government that didn't care, high unemployment rates, regular industrial action, rubbish gathering in the streets uncollected by binmen who refused to work, electricity rationed!!!! (can you beleive that every other night you wouldn't have power!!!) etc, etc They beleived deeply in the saying "No Future" However the 'British' spirit of sticking together and making life work in a middle class England is where the patriotism stems from. The opening to the show 'There Will Always Be An England' sung by Vera Lynn says everything, she was an inspiration to the forces during the second world war and I feel that John and co felt like they were going through a war of their own in the early 70's. It's obvious that the band feel passionate about England and it's history, which is probably why 2 of them live in the States!!!!! The song was a brilliant opening to the show, you have to remember that unlike yourself most of the people in the crowd were old English bastards like me! That song was there to get the likes of me 'up and ready' for the performance, I think the reaction of the crowd was testament to this! Jeeeeeez, how boring am I!!!!!! Gonna quit before I send you to sleep! Anyway, something a little more interesting, some photo's a mate sent me from the Thursday night show!

Gonna quit before I send you to sleep! This post was definitely not boring, I liked when they talked about how things were back in the seventies in the Filth and the Fury, but that was the extent of my knowledge, your post definitely gives a bit more insight, although it's fascinating stuff, so I'd love to know more!

But jees, it's hard to believe he was in the Sex Pistols a year or so before this performance! Thanks for explaining about the cap. It's just like the old days when they used to wear each others clothes, isn't it? Wonder if next we'll see Cookie sporting John's tartan suit and John in Steve's leather jacket!!!!!

Pud,
Thanks for the history lesson - not boring at all! And thanks for the photos as well.
Also, thanks to you & Snoogans4jay & Elisabeth for the great concert reports - good to be able to at least read about it even though I wasn't able to be there. Sounds like everyone had a lot of fun (even if a few bruises came with it).
Hope it doesn't take too long for that DVD to come out.

you gotta give glen credit though...he had never tried to be anything but what he is....kinda square...BUT, at least he doesn't pretend to punk it up! does anyone else find it odd that the one who has done the most drinking, smoking, drugs (i.e. John) looks the youngest? And yet when they started he looked the oldest!

And I think he looked like one of the youngest back in the day (Cookie looking the youngest back then). Jonesy always looked pretty haggard and older to me back in the day. Plus pretty sure Steve's done more drugs that John. He was a heroin/cocaine addict/sex addict/smoker/alcoholic. While John wasn't necessarily "clean living", he was never in as heavy as Steve was I don't think. I think Cookie looks the youngest now and he's the one who has lived the cleanest. But then again to each their own.
