John doesn't really go into PiL in his book........I got that from interviews with him where Keith is mentioned and a couple of books on PiL.........apparently the split was very very bad with each of them wishing the other dead. Keith said John called him after the Sid and Nancy movie was made (before it was released) and told Keith "We have to stop this thing" and basically ranted about the movie.... ....so Keith asked John if he wanted to meet for lunch to maybe bury the hatchet once and for all, John agreed, and then never showed up x 4 tries on Keith's part (according to Keith), so Keith gave up . John was quoted in the last few years as saying he still had no use for Keith, and that Keith needed to stop being an asshole. I would like to know the whole story of what happened but unless John writes another book and this time DOES talk about PiL, I guess we will never know They both wished the other dead? You weren't kidding, Snoogs. That's nasty. John's reference to Keith's being an asshole (same reference as used with Sid) and John's phoning Keith around the time of the Sid & Nancy movie makes me think John's estrangement from Keith had to do with heroin abuse. Come on guys, life's too short. Get together...

Come on guys, life's too short. Get together... Actually, from what I understand through interviews, John became very upset with Keith for recording on what was to become "This is What You Want" without him. Martin apparently let John know that Keith was in the studio (John was in CA and Keith in NY), and John phoned Keith furious and told him to leave the studio immediately. Keith refused and told John he had heard that John had been singing Anarchy in the UK while in CA and that doing so was against everything he felt PiL had stood for. John hung up on him and they did not speak again. Keith was unceremoniously dumped from the band. Keith did, however, release what he deemed the "real" version of "This is What You Want" and called it "Commercial Zone". It features the versions of the tracks HE played on. John removed all of Keith's guitar parts on the official release of "This is What You Want". Keith was quoted as saying John was as dead to him as Sid is. John was quoted as saying (when asked how Keith was by a reporter) "Dead I hope". Definite bad blood there. The one unforgivable sin to John is not drug use, but betrayal, and he felt betrayed by Keith it seems.

Okay, so I am just WRONG for the most part dammit.......I will just turn it over to a direct quote from John :
"I had to get rid of quite a few people. Levine was one of them because of his drug habit. No matter how much effort you put into stopping such people it doesn't work. I tried with Sid and it failed. There's no way, once they make that decision. It's best just to walk away from it all, otherwise you'll end up accused of all kinds of things and it's not worth it" ---Feb. 1986

What a waste of life, talent, promise, etc. What they to themselves and all around them is utterly tragic. And how does the old saying go? There's only two possibilities for drug addicts, you either get off drugs or you die. Yet, there seems to be no shortage of fresh prospective junkies, ready to take their place. Where Keith and Sid were concerned, I just don't get how they could think it would be a good idea to take a filthy needle and stick crap in their arms. I understand that after a short period of time you're hooked and the heroin takes over your soul. But how do you make the decision to do it for the first time, especially as petrified as most people are of needles? How depressed or self-loathing or gullible or stupid do you have to be? I just don't get it and never will...

I just don't get it and never will... I know. I don't understand the allure either. The hardest thing for me to understand was why John himself tried it (only once he has said, he stated it gave him an "instant hangover" and he did not want that ever again)..........still........after Sid why on earth would such an intelligent man try it? Sid was not as dumb as people want him remembered as and I think that is the final proof.

Julian Keith has been away from us for much too long...so here he is...back again in all his glory!!!! Keiffy in his younger days... He was so damned fragile looking...like the slightest sound could startle or scare him! Aww..Keith has a sore neck... ...and his neck was still bothering him while on stage... Keith showing us his pearly whites.. Showing off another one of his guitars...towards the end of his career with PiL maybe?? A penny for your thoughts, Keith... Looking for vintage PiL records at an outdoor flea market, maybe? Oh no, for a guy who had such a youthful look well into his 20s, Keith's looking a little weathered these days:

As S4J has requested some recent info. on Mr. Levene (which may be harder to obtain than Jah's true birthday), let's begin by recognizing the soon-to-be birthday boy for his participation in two of John's most infamous interviews. We have already seen some wonderful pics thanks to Elisabeth regarding Keithy's role in the Snyder interview. But what about his "cool as a cucumber" performance in the John/Jah attack on these two victims? On that day, PiL performed Chant on the "Check it Out" TV show: Keith looked like he was maybe 12 years old here. Note how fond John was of him back in the day, it was like he was singing just for his little friend. Anyway, the entire band then sat down for a "cheapskate comedy interrogation" But John wouldn't have any of it... In an amazing performance, John let a rude word slip out (maybe not), told off the two clowns, ripped off his mike, and stormed off the set (but not before grabbing his drink off the TV, ha ha!). Jah was the next one to tell these two off, admonishing them for not being able to ask an "intelligent question" It went a little something like this: Woman in ugly yellow dress: Tell you what, lets forget about it all. Guy with bad '70s moustache: Right. Jah: Yeah, I think you should. Keith: No, no, no, that's a total cop-out. Wobble: Cop-out! [bleep] Then, Jah stormed out, in the midst of a prolonged "beep beep beep" In the midst of all this chaos we have Keithy, who simply sat calmly as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred, continued to drink his bottle of Pepsi, and proving that he was not one to "follow the leader" WANTED TO CONTINUE THE INTERVIEW. :DHere's Keith (along with the rest of PiL, in all his glory): www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mEeFXGT7-A&NR=1

I love the play by play of that video.....I do that all the time with videos I agree, Keefy is always the quiet, "just let me think about it" guy. He was the same with the other infamous interview with John when he just kept trying to answer the original question after John would go off on something else and spar with Tom......

Yes, Julian Keithy was a thinker. Here's a couple recent pics of him. Keith, you really should rethink the glasses here. They look awful on you, make you look too old: Keith - I think the aviator type shades you sported with John above were much more attractive. So ditch these tacky Bono-styled glasses, huh???
