Well, they're not quite the same. Classic rock is...well, the sixties and the seventies music. Rock music. Rock and roll is a genre that was in the fifties. You know, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly etc.

Rock is just the word "rock'n'roll" shortened. To quote a song made famous by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas: SMOOTH!!!! On a first date do you (or for those who are in relationships DID YOU) prefer (a) dinner or (b) drinks .....AND WHY??? Drinks. I'm big into getting my drink on and I hate dates. I hate them. They are always awkward. I met my Nicholas at a party and when we aren't asleep on the couch (I swear to god, we are eating, sleeping, or reading 90% of the day), we're at parties getting our drink on. And I hate for Nick to pay for things for me. And I hate paying for things for him. It's Dutch or NO. :] I also really dislike eating in front of larger groups of people, like in restaurants, which is a side affect of gymastics, oddly enough. So I hate going out to dinner. Really spicy food or Really sweet food?

I seriously dont want to be a pain in the ass, but I knew someone would say that. :> That's what people use to think, but no, hard rock is hard rock, punk rock is punk or and rock n roll is rock n roll. ^^, It's really what you call "early rock". That's pure rock and roll. I dont know why alot of people think it combines all the genres. That's how it is.

You're allowed to think that, certainly, but historically, it is not true. A shortening of a word is the shortening of a word. I am a Creative Writing/Music Journalism major with a minor in Music History. This is EXACTLY what I study: the history of music and the etymology of words. "Original rock and roll" was by all technicalities jazz, created by black musicians in the 20s and 30s. The term rock'n'roll was originally a slang term used by these musicians for sex. This new type of music was played on radios and extremely controversial and people tried to replicate it in whatever way they could. Rock'n'roll didn't start to get labels until the late 60s and 70s, when people started put labels on these artists: glam rock, punk rock, prog rock, industrial rock, metal rock, hard rock, grunge rock, etc. In the 60s, people were still making folk music, glam rock, etc, and calling it rock and roll because that's what it was: it was an attempt to replicate the spirit of the original rock'n'roll, created by black jazz musicians. The term rock'n'roll was shortened to "rock" and tacked onto the ends of the new labels. So yes, historically, rock'n'roll is a SINGLE GENRE which includes all of the individual labels that are put on music today: punk, goth, grunge, industrial, hard, nu metal, etc. Anyway, this is a game thread. Let's try to keep the "this or that"'s to things that are VERY VERY DIFFERENT. :] THUS: This or that: Really sweet food or Really spicy food? ?

I'm an Obama girl. I feel like I should just go on a rant here for a moment: I don't know how Obama will back up his commitment to change, but I would rather have Obama with his promises of change in the white house, rather than McCain with his commitment to remain in the war because he doesn't want to lose his "good ol' boy" image. That being said, I really like McCain as a human being: he was a POW for seven and he fought very bravely for our country during Vietnam, which was also an unjust war. It just makes me question how he can stand up and defend the Iraq War when he himself was one of the many, MANY victims of the Vietnam War. My dad was stationed in Vietnamese waters on an aircraft carrier when he was in the Navy during the war and my dad hates to talk about it, but when one of my friends was sent to Iraq, my dad broke down into tears. Even people who never saw direct conflict (my dad) still are scarred and tramatized by what that war did to that generation. And the Iraq war is doing the EXACT same thing for my generation: it is tearing us apart, it is killing my classmates and my friends. As well, I support Obama's ideas for the economy and taxes: his decision to raise taxes doesn't scare me, because he will be RAISING taxes for the wealthiest 5% in America, who currently pay the same amount of taxes as my middle-class family. A lot of people didn't like his choise of Biden, and although Joe seems like a used car salesmen, he has the most experience with foreign policy of any of the Dem choices that Obama had and FP is what Obama is weak on. So that's why I support Obama. I am, however, worried because it will be my age group - 18 to 25 - who decides this election...and I'm just worried that my generation is so apathetic, so disgruntled, so emotionally distant that we might not be able to fix the country. : (
Anyway...
Cell (mobile) phone or Landline?

(I use a landline. Handy with giving professors my number, so I don't accidentally text them.)
Neither. Although I do like Palin's personality...she seems like a nice lady. Hill annoys me.
Dr. Pepper or Coca Cola??

Next question -- a version of this may have already been asked. If it has, it's worth asking again for anyone who hasn't responded, as you can generally tell a lot about people how they respond to it. So here we go: If you could be transported for one night only to the 100 Club in Londontown circa 1977 for a performance by the Sex Pistols , who would you prefer to see on stage: (1) Glen or (2) Sid GLENNNNNN!! Best diet soft drink (if there is one ) Diet Mountain Dew Diet Dr. Pepper Other
