Timothy and Amie were killed by the bear "Ol'y'" Oct. 6, 2003 This man died a jackass. He put himself and his girlfriend in danger, he fed wild animals so that they lost their fear of humans, and he refused to listen when time and again officials in the area asked him to leave for his own safety. I am sorry he died in such a horrible way but if anyone on earth was asking for it by their own actions, Mr. Treadwell was. |

Timothy and Amie were killed by the bear "Ol'y'" Oct. 6, 2003 This man died a jackass. He put himself and his girlfriend in danger, he fed wild animals so that they lost their fear of humans, and he refused to listen when time and again officials in the area asked him to leave for his own safety. I am sorry he died in such a horrible way but if anyone on earth was asking for it by their own actions, Mr. Treadwell was. Shandon. Geez. I admit Timothy attributed human personalities to those bears and they were wild animals and that is just not the safe thing to do. But to call him a jackass? Come on. Timothy loved those animals and he loved the foxes he fed. He had been in that area for 10 expeditions over a 10 year time and he DID feel like he knew many of those creatures. I think his faith was rewarded by just how close many of those bears let him get, as well as that little wild fox. He once said that one bear (and she was GIGANTIC) went near him for protection. Animals do that when they recognize (better than some people do) that you care for them genuinely. Timothy's death was by an older bear he had never seen before his final year. That bear Tim had said was old, had been tagged and abused by researchers, and was barely able to get much of a food supply any more. THIS is why he attacked Timothy and Amie. They died defending each other. I think Timothy was a sweet, kind, brave man. He made mistakes but we all do. He paid the ultimate price for whatever mistakes he had made. Amie chose to be there with him and face that danger herself. If she hadn't tried to help Tim she would probably still be alive but bravely she ran after that bear and hit it repeatedly with a pan to try and save him. Jackass? I don't think so. |
