I don't think it's about him making money. Some people are probably just confused by it being a butter commercial. Opinions are opinions. You have the ability to ignore them and I don't think it's fair to insult people for having their own specific opinion. ETA: I did some research. Country Life butter is owned by Dairy Crest, which is currently looking into closing a factory in Nottingham and laying off over 200 workers. We are not going to resort to insults against each other here. As to anyone blaming John for that company laying off workers, I think it is sad and ridiculous for anyone (if this is the case) to blame a man in a commercial for a company's action. He is not a political activist or a union representative. He is just a man who has had strong opinions in the past like anyone else about events surrounding him. It was not his responsibility to know what a company was or is going to do with the people that work there. What the hell does that have to do with whether or not he uses or likes the product? Hopefully he got paid, had fun, end of story. It is just a butter commercial, get over it, is what I say to any and all detractors. Being that this board is here for John, I am happy to see him on TV in whatever capacity as long as it is not a hurtful capacity to him. |

To clarify, I think the commercial is funny and if John had fun making it, then awesome, more power to him. I don't care what other people think about John because I think he's quite intelligent and caring. I do not think the butter commercial represents anything other than a butter commercial: it is not a statement on punk attitude, or wealth, or Johnny's lifestyle, or John's activism or relation to working class people. It's just a butter commercial.
HOWEVER, maybe I am the only one, but I can see how some people could have a differing opinion* than the one we on the board share. It doesn't make them stupid or jealous, it means that they judge things differently than we do, based on a different number of factors (personal likes and dislikes) and then amount of information they have regarding the subject and how they digest that information.
(And before anyone twists that statement around, just because I can see how someone can differ in opinion doesn't mean I believe that myself.)
And whatever.

But the more I thought about this whole thing with my tired little worn out mind tonight the more ludicrous it has gotten so here goes my hopefully final comment. Do you have butter in your fridge? Margarine? If so go to your fridge grab some bread/toast/whatever the fuck and put the butter or margarine on it. Then take a bite. Now. Do you know shit about the company you just supported? Do you think about that when you go grocery shopping? You might, I don't. If someone offered you good money right now to do a commercial for your little half eaten butter/margarine would you? Cause I mean you use it, it is in your fridge........ ...I would....well so would John. Anything to add?  Now... .... John sure looked damn good in those commercials didn't he ?
