This film is absolutely brilliant, I loved the acting.. Especially John's of course. He portrayed Leo perfectly.. leads me to believe he could have also made a successful actor if he had decided o move further in that direction. The book itself seems to have something against me though. I've been looking everywhere for it locally, and one bookstore had it, but apparently a geezer had bought it a week before I showed up for it! Grrr. Yeah, John's acting in this film (and his acting in general) is completely under-rated. His performance was brilliant. Yeah.. I actually just got ahold of the original book, and it was amazing. I figured they would have changed the character around during filming to suit John better, but that wasn't the case. John performed Leo's character to perfection. I'd definitely recommend reading the book if you can get your hands on it.

I'm sure you could find a used copy over Ebay or such though!

uhm is it okay to upload a picture here? little confused cuz this board is not for John's picture, but im a newbie, cant access picture board... anyway, this film, 'Corrupt' is a really brilliant, underrated one, i guess. both of main actors performed really well. Anyone else to play Leo Smith? nah, only Lydon could do it!!! mad english rich boy living in usa, somewhat ironic, but suits well, really. the version i watched was 100 min, and i heard some brutal scenes were cut off. the original one runs 117 min, i remember. Levene and Atkins also participated in soundtrack, plus Morricone's synthesizer score well it suited my taste anyway. i REALLY hope a better version of DVD reel. but actually, this film is abandoned by major production at this time. So sad for Lydon and Keitel fans. Attachments:

I think, as I have said before, that John did an amazing job with his role.

I saw this film opening weekend in New York City, and the show was sold out--the line stretched around the block. However, it was NOT received well. Lots of laughing and booing. I think the punks in the audience were expecting a concert film or something. I know my friends and I hated John's hair--too long by our standards at the time!
I've since read that he wore his own clothes in the movie, and if you watch old PiL videos, you can see a lot of the same jackets, etc.

I'm posting this as a kinda guide when looking for a semi-good quality version of the film. -The DVD to the far left has terrible visual and audio quality, steer clear/ -After that is the original Thorn/EMI vhs of the film. Great quality- as far as a 80s vhs tape goes.. and it's also pretty damn hard to find. All the Dvds are originally shitty transfers from this one. -Next to that one is a new DVD version of the film, which was created shortly after it was declared Public Domain. It's better quality than the dvd to the left, and the audio is great. -And to the right is the book- Read it! It clears up a lot of things the film doesn't. (Also, they changed Leo's character a bit to match John. Originally he's an American fellow.)

I hadn't thought of that lizardcat..that some fans of John's might have thought he would be playing Johnny Rotten instead of the film character. I bet they WERE shocked. Thanks for the run down Otto, I have two of those versions including the shitty one. I do still need to read the book. I also need to buy a VCR, never had mine fixed since I have a DVD player. But sometimes you can't find the older less popular films any other way. Thanks for the heads up!

I have a question for you regarding the DVD version you have shown with title of "Corrupt" (third one pictured). Has this video been edited to remove "naughty" words or is it complete? I have a copy of the DVD with the same title, but a different cover & it has been edited. (Though I do agree that the video quality on it is a little better than the "Corrupt Lieutenant" version you show on the left.) Joan

And yeah.. the one on the left is just.. terrible.
