(This is a delicious copy pasta from the main "What happened to the Pictures section?" thread. The reason for this is so we have strictly the rules and reasons in one place, so it's easy for those lovely newbies.)
Reasons Why The Pictures Section is Password Protected
1. Many of the images are taken from websites such as Corbis, Rex, Music pictures. These images are copyrighted and it is illegal to remove them from the website and post them elsewhere. Our members could be prosecuted in the court of law if this was ever found out by these websites. With the section password protected, these websites cannot get proof that this is taking place. They can track down members by their IP addresses. The password protection is a form of protection for everyone on this board.
2. We want participation on the board. Many members (approximately 90% of them) joined just to get into the pictures section and steal the pictures. The way to remedy this was to password protect the pictures section. We understand some people may not have time to post. But if you have time to go through 40+ pages of pictures and save all the ones you like, then you obviously have enough spare time to post a bit now and again. We aren't asking that you post novel-sized posts at least 15 times a day. We're just asking that you participate, post pictures yourself, ask questions, start discussions, etc.
Why You Should Just Leave and Not Waste Your Time Registering If You Just Want to Steal the Pictures
1.) If you are a new member and you just want to steal our pictures, find another board.
2.) If you are a new member and you want to get into the pictures board the easy way, and just ask for the password without every having to post, you are incredibly selfish.
3.) If you don't want to participate, don't join the board. Period.
4.) If you are a participating member, not a GM and not Snoogans4Jay, and you give out the password, then you are selfish and if we find you have been giving out the password to newbies who don't post, then you will be banned.
5.) We are a community. Look up the meaning of that word and then get back to me.
It's really sad that it's had to come to this. I consider this board something very free, something unique. It's really sad that it's come to a point where we have to protect ourselves from people stealing and/or trying to exploit us.
If you just want this board for it's pictures, then don't bother. Why? Because you can find them yourselves on a variety of websites. If you just want pictures, go to corbis, rex, music pictures, etc, make accounts and gakk the pictures yourself. We're not going to do it for you. We do this to be part of a community, an ongoing discussion. If you join a message board just to steal, then you need to find other things to do with your life. A forum is a forum for a reason.
I am here to be part of a community. I am not here to play babysitter to people who want the easy way out. You want pictures without community then steal them yourself.
Just Some General Guidelines About Being a Newbie
1. Be polite. I gotta say, your first post being a rude post demanding the password is just going to make us ban your IP address and never give you the password.
2. Participate.
3. Express your opinion. It's a John Lydon board! We love opinions.
4. Be respectful.
5. We won't censor or edit you (unless you say something truly disgusting and disrespectful to any member of this board). So say what you will, but remember to be respectful. The Sex Pistols were and are pretty polite...most of the time. ;]
6. Don't be afraid to PM Snoogs & I with any questions, complaints, suggestions, etc. you have.
7. Your IP can be traced. If you cause problems, yes I will track your IP address down. And then yes, we will ban it from being able to register on the boards. This is the one and only warning on this matter.
General Guidelines for All Members
1. Rudeness and disrespect will not be tolerated in the slightest. Warnings will be handed out. If we warn you and you continue to be rude to members and continue to contribute nothing but disrespect, consider yourself banned.
2. If you hand out the password, consider your IP, e-mail, and username banned from the forum.
3. Personal attacks will NOT be tolerated. Posts of this sort will be deleted immediately.
4. If your post was deleted, it was deleted for a reason. If you are curious to why, please PM Snoogs, me, or another mod to ask why. DO NOT bring it up in the forum. Any posts of this sort will be deleted from this point forward.
5. Do NOT make assumptions of who deleted your post and ATTACK them for it (see rule #3); there are several mods on this forum who can delete posts, not just me and Snoogs. Also, mistakes happen and posts can be deleted on accident, it happens; as well, you may have thought you posted it and it didn't go through/something happened with your internet connection/there was a bug in the proboards server at the moment, etc. To wrap it up: if your post was deleted, it was for a reason. Do not attack someone for thinking they deleted it. Posts are deleted for reasons, not for personal vendettas. We're a lot more mature than that.
6. Please, try to all act maturely. We are all adults on this board (or...close to being adults) and if what you are writing sounds like something a whiny 6 year old would say, you might want to leave it out.
7. PLEASE: if you find something offensive or that bothers you, do not respond just to cause arguments. There are times when people can phrase things better, but PLEASE do not start arguments just because of a misinterpretation. It is hard to represent sarcasm and jokes via writing so PLEASE if you have an issue with something PM Snoogs and I rather than start an argument.
