I know this is a touchy suject but something I saw on The Guardian website has right got up my nose. It's seems a few hundred Pro-Palestine protesters are going to congregate outside PiL's upcoming Leeds gig to express their anger at our John for playing a date in Tel-Aviv, Israel, next month. Click for article. Here's an open letter to Lydon in The Palestine Chronicle, which does seem respectful, if a tad cheeky. Lydon has hit back: "I really resent the presumption that I'm going there to play to right-wing Nazi jews. If Elvis-fucking-Costello wants to pull out of a gig in Israel because he's suddenly got this compassion for Palestinians, then good on him. But I have absolutely one rule, right? Until I see an Arab country, a Muslim country, with a democracy, I won't understand how anyone can have a problem with how they're treated." Source. Have these people not got better things to do with their lives? If they think PiL are playing Israel for some kind of political controversy or whatnot then they sorely mistaken. I hate it when playing to fans gets lumped in with shitty politics! This protest is kinda reminiscent of when the Sex Pistols played Caerphilly in 1976.
