MAKE MCLAREN OUR NEW BARON
Sex Pistols boss in TV title show

A VILLAGE publican is backing punk impresario Malcolm McLaren to win the latest celebrity reality TV show.
Dave Winterton is a big Sex Pistols fan - and the winner of the new programme will become the local laird.
Tiny Gardenstown in Aberdeenshire is the setting for a three-way battle to become the real-life Baron of Troup.
Soap star Mike Reid and former Hear' Say singer Suzanne Shaw will take on former Pistols' manager McLaren.
They will live among locals for the next two weeks in the 1000-population fishing village.
Residents will then vote for one of the three to be the 13th Baron of Troup - the title was bought by ITV for the show.
Dave, who runs the three-bedroom Garden Arms Hotel in the stunningly beautiful village, said: "We are expecting them in over the weekend.
"I think it's good publicity and if something positive comes out of it then everybody will be happy.
"I used to be a Sex Pistols fan and Malcolm McLaren is quite a celeb to have here."
McLaren said "I am looking forward to discovering this part of the world which has been hidden from me for so many years."
But he may find locals not quite ready for his metropolitan view of the world.
Sitting at the foot of towering sandstone cliffs and accessible only by a narrow steep road, the little village has no fewer than five different churches and meeting halls.
Firebrand Ulster politician Ian Paisley is a regular preacher there.
Many of its fishing families are members of the Closed Brethern and follow staunch religious beliefs and traditional values.
Yesterday, the celeb trio spent their first full day in their new surroundings meeting villagers.
They made their first official public appearance last night at the annual "Yellow Fish Night" fundraiser in the public hall to raise money for harbour improvements.
All three tucked into plates of smoked haddock and potatoes, followed by home-made trifle. The event had long been a sellout with all 180 £8 tickets snapped up weeks ago.
The stars will be expected to play a full part in the community, which includes a butcher and a baker.
As EastEnders star Mike Reid strolled around in the brilliant sunshine, he said: "It is a beautiful place and I am really looking forward to living here."
And Suzanne said: "I can't wait to get my hands dirty on this show. It is a beautiful place and I want to get involved in the local way of life here."
However, there are mixed feelings among locals about the high-profile show, due to be broadcast in August.
Some believe it will bring in more visitors, others fear it will bring traffic chaos.
Roy Stanley, of the Gardenstown Harbour Trustees, said: "I am undecided at the moment. There seems to be an element of Big Brother about it to me which is not an attractive prospect.
"Having seen the celebrities, they seem to be fairly sensible - if you can call the manager of the Sex Pistols sensible."
