I don't feel like I'm putting down John. I would never do that. but I think the purpose of a fan is to be able to look at things from both views. I respect John, hopefully everyone realizes that. I enjoyed the music performance (Glen, Steve, and Paul) over the vocal. Just this performance. Maybe John needs more time to rehearse, who knows. But I didn't enjoy hearing him. It was great to see him having fun, I won't doubt he was having fun, but sometimes, you just gotta deliver. :S I know that sounds harsh, but yeah. I'm just saying I didn't enjoy John's performance. I can see that he was having fun. I want him to have fun. I don't think people are being like "GOD HE SUCKS stop having fun John!!" I think people just expect a better performance, vocally. :S A performance on par with the level with Paul, Steve, and Glen - who performed brilliantly. And I won't talk anymore about the interview because really its irrelevant what I think about the interview at this point because I've already stated it. lol Anyway, I was glad to see them on tv, getting some press time, getting interviewed, and I'm glad that John was having fun. I'm not saying he shouldn't be having fun. He should have fun. That's the purpose.

I was not directly aiming my comments at YOU Mish, I am sure you do respect John, but I did NOT want the negativity about John that I have witnessed on some boards to carry over here. If you didn't enjoy him, that is your right certainly. I do, however, and hope he is much the same at Brixton this week. Just the joy of seeing him live carries me. Other fans are more focused on artists sounding like their records, or like other performers in that particular band better, and that is okay too. Just not me. John is 51 and lucky to still be able to sing the way he smokes and drinks, bless his heart. Gonna edit to add this. John's instrument is his VOICE. That is a little different than men playing an instrument. Any yahoo with half a talent should be able to duplicate their musical sound 20, 30, or even 40 years later. Not so with a VOICE. One's voice tends to wear out. John sang no different during those performances on both shows (Leno and this guy) than he had done with PiL in the later years or with the Pistols in 96. So being "on par" with the other three is not even equivocal because his voice is his instrument and the human body has wear and tear with the passage of time. I have a great respect for other people's opinions and for greatly opinionated people, myself included, but I have found that if I go to a performer's board and am negative about said performer 9 times out of 10 people become upset. Go figure .

I haven't had the chance to watch the full interview yet, but I saw both of the performances. I was blown away, to my mind John looks, sounds and performs better than ever! The rest of the band didn't seem as full of energy as they could've been, but i expect that to change when they get onstage in Brixton! Anyway as much as i did see the interview, and what I gather from other recent interviews, John seems to have a lot of things in store for us. I have one complaint about the show though, too little Rammy : (

Mish.. I remember posting the same thing about John`s permances but did I put him down?? no... I wonder why you posted something saying or accusing John of caring about the media so he did al he did to get attention and for me THAT is putting him down... for me John caouldn`t give a damn about media and all he does is for fun and THEN I read another post from you where all of a sudden you think that John`s perfomance was bad but you love him and all that... and the you said the interview was good...and you didn`t mention what you said about John doing all the talking and Steve not having the chance to talk...how come you change your mind all the time??? I`m going to sound hard here but I thinks you don`t give a crap about John but you do give a crap about the band.. for that there are sex pistols boards where each memeber is given the same importance because this board is mainly about John...there is a sex pistols section but the board in general is about John so at least show some respect... Sorry for the rest of the board but I had to be direct here but I hate to read people`s posts where they try to look good in front of others

I understand what you're saying Snoogs and I am not trying to be negative - really. And I don't like that other people are calling John the weak link either - I think that's rude. It's just my opinion and opinions can be wrong; I'm not trying to be offensive to John. I understand that his voice changes over time. I'm just saying it's not something I PERSONALLY enjoyed. I'm glad that everyone else liked it!! I'm glad the Pistols got to perform on TV!! I am GLAD that they got interviewed! It was great seeing them on TV. Did I enjoy the performance? Did I enjoy seeing the interview? No. I'm sorry. I just didn't. :S I know you weren't aiming your comments at me, Snoogs. :] I just felt I should clarify so you didn't think I was trying to put down John. I don't think he was the weak link!! and if I implied that in any of my previous posts, I did not mean it and I apologize if anyone got that indication. I think it was a strong performance, on both shows, although I didn't enjoy John's voice - but I'm glad he was having fun. Random: I know I implied in my first post that he was just trying to look good in the eyes of the media...and I'm sorry that came off the way it did. What I was trying to say that John was trying to rile people up, if that makes sense - you know with the Leno comments, etc. But that's what he does and that's what's funny about him. And I put it REALLY BADLY in my first post, which I apologize for. Sorry for the rest of the board but I had to be direct here but I hate to read people`s posts where they try to look good in front of others And now, johnnysgirl. I'm just going to say that it's my opinion. And I've clarified my opinion several times now. And I'm sorry it appears that I am "changing my opinion." But I'm not. I think I've made it pretty clear since I've been a member here that I am a fan of the Pistols first and foremost. And I've stated several times that my favorite members are Steve Jones and Paul Cook. Does that mean I don't give a crap about John? No. It doesn't. I'm not going to act like I hero worship John. I respect the man. I think he is an amazing person, an amazing performer, an amazing songwriter. Did I enjoy him this time? No. Am I happy he enjoyed himself? Yes. Did I like the interview? No. Just because my opinion is different from yours, johnnysgirl, it doesn't mean it's a disrespect; I feel I've shown through ALL my actions on this board that I have a general level of respect for all human beings. And I'm sorry if you disagree wth my opinion. And I'm not trying to disrespect John and again I hope everyone realizes that. Based on my participation on this board, I feel like it should be pretty obvious that I have a lot of respect for John on the board. Anyone else think I overreacted Sorry, probably just PMS and over-protection No I don't think you overreacted. I understand what you're saying and you know I respect John 100%. And I'm glad for that. And you know I love this board and I would never do anything to disrespect John. But thre are two thigns I believe in that I have pulled directly from John: 1. I'm not going to hero worship him (not suggesting your hero worshipping - just saying*) because that's not what he wants, and 2. Everyone is allowed to their personal opinion about every thing. (*I'm not saying anyone who enjoyed the performance is hero worshipping John, I'm just saying that I don't believe fans should necessarily love every single thing a performer does. Some fans are going to like some things and some aren't. I hope that made sense. I'm not attacking anybody.) If you don't like my opinion, tough. I consider myself a fan of the Sex PIstols, of PIL, and of all the member individually. If you think I disrespected John, then go ahead. Think. But Do Not Attack My Opinion. State yours. Say you disagree with mine. But don't attack my integrity or my respect for John. Just on a side tangent: I have spent a lot of my life in the fucking gutter. I spent a lot of time NOT sharing my opinion and NOT talking at all. I was mute for three years. And it just seems to validate it when the minute I share my opinion - an opinion, that is, granted, unpopular - I get attacked for it and my intergrity gets questioned and my respect for someone that I care about deeply as A HUMAN BEING gets questioned. I would just like to say that I think that is utter crap and I don't want to see it happen on a board that I care so much about.* *Not aimed at you Snoogs. :] Once again, this is the last I'm going to say on it. I'm not going to reply to this thread anymore. At all. I've said what I wanted and needed to say and my integrity has been attacked for it. And I won't stand for that. It's not okay to me for people to do that. John is all about individualism and personal opinion and his fans champion the same thing. But the minute someone has an opinion against John, fans turn around and all of a sudden it's not okay to have an individual opinion about something? Wow.* *Not aimed at you Snoogs. Done. Outty. No more.

Being the lazy person I am, I could never do it - but I sure do appreciate your hard work! I have had a lot of fun lollygagging around here, and enjoy the people I get to "meet!"

Thanks Kathy ...we here at P & V try like hell... I think enough has been said on this thread too (I know Rammy just be wondering how the hell HE got involved over here ). I will just quote John himself (after all He really SHOULD have the last word )--- "You may not LIKE what I say, but I MEAN what I say" .........that should suffice for everyone's opinion.

Sorry for the rest of the board but I had to be direct here but I hate to read people`s posts where they try to look good in front of others woah that was a lil off there. Call me Mish but I know I've done that same thing. No regrets. I don't think anyone is right or wrong when it comes to Johns performance or interview. Everyone has an opinion and people should respect it just as if it was their own. I believe in constructive criticism. So when someone tells me I look like shit (which is everyday. lol) I take that as constructive criticism. ;-) I know mish wasn’t putting john down at all. I'm not picking sides with anyone, I’ll stick to mine thank you, but I gotta back mish up with this one cause I know I’ve done it before. I’ve had my times where I’ve thought to myself that the pistols sounded like total shit. But it wasn’t to put them down....it was just a thought. No one is perfect…not even John. There is no lie there (unless you think he is…then you really gotta get your feet back on the ground.) I know this is a board made for fans of John, including myself and there is no doubt that I really like being around you people who enjoy the same things as I do. But I can admit without shame that there are times where I felt he has sounded pretty bad. So what? That has never made me a lesser fan and it doesn’t mean I don’t care about John or the band. I still love John and I have full respect for him and I personally think he looked, sounded, and acted great in the interview and they did a fan-fucking-tastic job on both shows. p.s- didn't mean to offend but I had help a fellow fan here...even if I thought differently about the interview and show. oh and are we allowed to cuss on here? I’m still kinda new here so don’t laugh. lol

You would be right about that. I think the personality change is just that the man is content and more settled/happy now. Back in the Pistols early days he was full of anger, resentment, and drugs. In PiL he felt everyone was against him (the media, the people of England, everyone), he was on drugs then too and I am sure the future seemed bleak at times. Now he has come into his own. He is happy with Nora, financially secure, has a home, feels loved and I think more free to be who he really is. I keep remembering the advice he said Nora gave him before he left to appear on I'm a Celebrity. She told him to just be himself. I think he carries that advice with him now everywhere and I am loving it........ I agree with everything you've said above and have often thought about it.... you know how some people see the pil album 'album/compact disc/ cassette' as his best since metal box? I think it's got a lot to do with his state of mind in 1986 and since then too...just like you said, he was (probably) drug free by then, certainly a lot happier in general, financially secure and satisfied with having taken Malcolm McLaren to the cleaners, and apparently happy and settled with Nora. Don't know if you've noticed but it was only around this time (mid late 80s) that he started talking about her in interviews and you can tell he's pretty loved up . I think this whole change in attitude for the better is reflected in his music and is probably why 'album' is so damn good, I would certainly rank it as perhaps the best PiL album behind metal box. As an aside, I can't stand it when people go 'oh he's sold out, gone soft, etc'.....this STUPID FUCKING implication that you get in some articles that for some unknown reason, he's not allowed to be happy, or have a nice house, or enough money to pay the bills, or a wife and family. It makes me really angry the way some people seem to be shocked that he's a nice, happy person with a LIFE as opposed to being this charictature of Johnny Rotten who just stomps around spitting and swearing and that's it. I'm probably making no sense so sorry for rambling EDIT: just thought I should say that when I said 'some people' I wasn't talking about anyone on here. More like idiot journalists who don't do their research and neither know or care particularly about John and yet still write misinformed dumbass stuff about him
