In watching an interview from 2007 or 1977, John's position never changes. He consistently honest - says he won't let record companies control him, he talks from the heart, isn't fake: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qiXys2eXQE"Oh I'm not going to come down to their level. That's dictatorship and I will not tolerate it..."

I would have honestly preferred to hear Steve talk. As much as I respect John, I find him really annoying during interviews. :S And I was sort of embarassed for him. I felt like he was trying too hard to prove himself and it looked, well, silly.
And another thing..why weren't Paul and Glen included?
ETA: Removed part of my post. I know that seems sketchy, but...just go read my last post.

Well everyone is different, that is what makes the world go around, and I personally LOVE John in interviews, his enthusiasm, wit, and just plain being over the top is endearing and sexy. I am pretty sure the band make arrangements among themselves as to who handles the press/interviews etc. As I said, Steve had the flu and I doubt he really wanted too much attention, he was coughing alot. I don't understand (and I am sure it is just me), why people (not just Mish but I KEEP reading it) are embarrassed by or for John. Why? He is just being himself, he is happy, he is fun to watch for those of us that feel that way, and he is hurting no one. Of course one could argue I am slightly biased , but that is why I created a JOHN LYDON message board instead of a Sex Pistols one (.net already has one of those) . I should clarify that I am a fan of John first and foremost, got into the Pistols only because he is the singer, got into PiL because of him as well. Nothing against the other guys, I am just a Johnny woman

I think the singer usually talks. After all how many interviews of U2 have you seen the drummer or gutarists talking? It is almost always bono and then MAYBE Bono and the Edge. Same with REM, Blondie, Green Day, The Police etc...

I can't explain why I felt embarassed for him. I just find his personality a little grating sometimes. And I feel like there is a huge gap between his personality in the Pistols, in PiL, and now. I feel like something has happened, drastically. And I know people's personalities change as they grow older, but not in the way I'm talking about. Something is just very different. It's like two different people. And I just find when he says certain things and acts a certain, he makes himself look, well, silly and stupid. Which I know he's not. I don't know. I can't explain it. And I know no matter how well I explain it, you'll still think different Snoogs. lol So I won't even try. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion. Just trying to clarify mine.

You would be right about that.
I think the personality change is just that the man is content and more settled/happy now. Back in the Pistols early days he was full of anger, resentment, and drugs. In PiL he felt everyone was against him (the media, the people of England, everyone), he was on drugs then too and I am sure the future seemed bleak at times. Now he has come into his own. He is happy with Nora, financially secure, has a home, feels loved and I think more free to be who he really is. I keep remembering the advice he said Nora gave him before he left to appear on I'm a Celebrity. She told him to just be himself. I think he carries that advice with him now everywhere and I am loving it........

Same with REM, Blondie, Green Day, The Police etc... Although it's true that the singer typically does most of the talking, I have seen drummers and others in the groups you've mentioned interviewed. Usually when a group performs on a talk show like Leno or Letterman, the host walks over and talks to various members of the band. Other times, I've seen the entire band come over and sit beside the host after performing. I wish they would have done this on Ferguson as it would have been great to see Paul and Glen out there with Steve and John, even if John in the tradition of the Pistols and singers everywhere did most of the talking! I think one of the reasons Steve, as sick as he was, was out there with John during the Ferguson show is because Steve's very popular and recognizable in L.A. due to his radio show. Still, wouldn't it be great to see the entire group reunited for a TV interview one of these days like they were on the Grundy and Janet Streeter Porter shows?

Still, wouldn't it be great to see the entire group reunited for a TV interview one of these days like they were on the Grundy and Janet Streeter Porter shows? Yes that would be great, but I still think the group themselves decide on who handles the press any particular time, so I don't think anyone was slighted. Also what Seaside was saying, I think, not trying to put words in her mouth, is that USUALLY it is the singer because USUALLY that is the most popular member. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I will separate these parts because I don't want Kathy to think this last part is directed at her.........only at the general turn of this thread and same on some other Pistols places recently visited....and a promise that that type thing won't come here (it may not be a justified concern but this has just bothered me)...My commentary as board owner so to speak ---------------------------------------------------------------------- And it was great to see and hear John. I should state for hopefully the last time, that my problem is NOT with having the other members involved in interviews, if they are great for them, no problem with that. What is making some of us unhappy is the continued criticism and put-downs of John that seems rampant to us his fans on every Pistols related site since the performances. I was so happy to see them again on TV and then all you hear everywhere is "John is the weak link, John's performance sucked, damn him for having fun with his art". WTF? That whole thing has really pissed me off everywhere I have seen it. In my opinion if there is nothing good to say don't say anything because I want them to continue (and I sure as hell want John to continue) to perform as long as possible, and I would like him to feel appreciated in so doing. This is a John Lydon message board, make no mistake, so if you think this board is going to be biased towards John, DAMN STRAIGHT IT IS...expect people to love him on here. {Hops down off soap box} That is the final two cents on this subject Now............back to the great interview posted

That would be cool to see them in an open interview with all of them. Is there any show/venue that does that these days? I loved, loved, loved the Janet Street Porter interview. It was great to see them in the beginning doing their performances and I think it shows the different personalitis with Paul and Jonesy together messing with each other (i.e. "Stop leaning on me!) Glen getting annoyed at John and John ignoring Glen and the guys pbasically taking the piss out of each other!
