I worried about John in the early PiL years though. Too many drugs and just not healthy......Keith (as I found out from Mish and from reading interviews with Jah and Martin done for last PiL book) was as strung out on heroin as Sid if not more so. Why deal with all that AGAIN after Sid. Was John trying to get it right this time? Was that why he put up with Keith for as long as he did? Sigh. I love PiL any era.........no fuss, as long as John is there I am a happy camper........but I really think PiL became much more fun and liberating for John personally after the early years......

Keith was a lot better at covering up his addiction than Sid was. Maybe because Keith had more general common sense.
I also think John could recognize Keith was genuinely talented so he was more able to put up with the bullshit. Remember, Sid was strung out and couldn't play. Even in the depths of his addiction, Keith was still a KICKASS guitarist. I think that's a point that needs to be seen. Plus, in the Pistols, along with the Sid drama, John was just genuinely unhappy because he was under leash and collar by Malcolm. In PiL, even initially, he could do things HIS way and no one could tell him what to do. So he didn't have as much pressure, even with another heroin addict.
