Lydon savages 'dead carcass' StingBy Sherna Noah Published: 21 September 2007The punk legend John Lydon has lashed out at Sting, calling the Police frontman and his fellow band members "soggy old dead carcasses". Lydon, formerly known as Johnny Rotten, poured scorn on the Eighties band's recent comeback. Lydon, 51, was speaking as the Sex Pistols prepare for a one-off gig to mark the 30th anniversary of their album Never Mind The Bollocks. The former punk rebel added: "That really is a reformation isn't it? But honestly that's like soggy old dead carcasses. You know listening to Stink [sic] trying to squeak through 'Roxanne' one more time that's not fun." Lydon also said, in an interview on Virgin Radio, that Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty's problems were a cry for help. He said of Doherty: "Banging about your drug habits is a bit old fart isn't it? You know you can use drugs for entertainment but you should be quiet about it. "That shouldn't be your centre showpiece. There's not much going on in their head with them. They obviously don't enjoy what they're doing and that's why you turn to drugs. That's what happened with Sid [Vicious]. It's a slow suicide and it's a cry for help because they're in mental pain. And this is a disgusting industry because people just cut you dead. Lydon, who lives in LA, also condemned modern British music for "lacking originality".

You know what, this was on MTV news. They gave a small message in the paparazzi category. They gave his comment about sting and at the end, they said that his brain from all the fame and glory, ran out his ears, and that he totally lost it. They also said, that he is an old fag, that doesn't know what he's talking about. At the end they added, that his nickname "Rotten" means rotten old bastard. And they showed the most horrible pictures of him. I totally lost my passion for MTV and my day got ruined. Just thought, that you should know.

I was a big MTV fan in the 80's (like totally for sure) but they changed. But I did like John's take on VJay when he was doing Rotten TV. He said (paraphrasing here) it is better than to be part of something than being a reporter just talking about people doing something. The legacy those meanspirited people will leave is nothing.

THAT tears it......MTV needs to go DOWN......they are not relevant in any meaningful way today and just play to the lowest common denominator of human existance.... ...FUCK THEM.... I wish I could replay to THEM............thanks for posting that Justina

You know, I listened to the interview with John that this comment came from. The interviewer was asking about the Sex Pistols gig in London coming up in November and was asking him what he thought about other "re-unions". John didn't bring up Sting, the interview questioned if he wasn't excited or interested in the Police tour. John responded (somewhat typically) in the negative & made the "soggy carcass" comment. Hard to tell if he was really serious, or just joking around. Point is, that John wasn't ranting about this, he was asked about the Police, & he answered the question. Then the media goes & makes it some kind of big issue for him.
I don't know whether John was just having fun - or maybe he really doesn't like the Police & their music. If he doesn't like them that's OK, its his opinion. I have to say, though, that I went to the Police concert in July & to my eyes Sting's "carcass" is in just fine shape - must be all the yoga! (John may just not be the right gender to appreciate that.) Sting's voice was in pretty good shape as well - we had fun. And, I still like John, regardless.

Hi Joan and welcome aboard - Is is yoga that has kept Sting in great shape? You're right, he has held it all together rather nicely. I for one have always loved the Police, especially the raggae influence of many of their classic tunes. I went to see them at the Spectrum across the state from you in Philadephia with a couple girlfriend back in '83. The Go-Gos opened. It was a great concert all around.
