I'm sure most people on this board are familiar with this project but I thought that band definitely deserves a thread because these guys are responsible for one of the best albums I've heard lately.
The Good, The Bad and The Queen is thought to have started off as Damon Albarn's previously announced solo project to be produced by Danger Mouse, who produced Gorillaz' second album 'Demon Days'. The NME revealed in late July 2006 that this project has become a band. The initial draft of the story suggested that the band is to be called The Good, The Bad and The Queen, but the article was revised after a few hours to say that the album has that title so the band behind the album officially doesn't have a name at all. The band members' names however are known with certainty -
Damon Albarn (vocals, keyboards, guitars),
Simon Tong (lead guitar),
Paul Simonon (bass) and
Tony Allen (drums).
The band's debut album entered the UK charts at #2, going Gold there in its first week. It also charted respectably across Europe and sold over 50,000 copies in the US. The Good, the Bad and the Queen is in one sense a concept album, as its songs are all themed around modern life in London.
Tracklisting (all versions):-
1. History Song
2. '80s Life
3. Northern Whale
4. Kingdom Of Doom
5. Herculean
6. Behind The Sun
7. The Bunting Song
8. Nature Springs
9. A Soldier's Tale
10. Three Changes
11. Green Fields
12. The Good, The Bad & The Queen
(13. Mr Whippy - included on the Japanese release of the album only)
I first heard them on indie 103.1 and knew nothing about the band, now oddly enough this was at a time where I mostly listened to Gorillaz and the verve, I really loved the sound so I checked them out on the Internet and safe to say that my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw who were in that band. But they completely won me over when i saw them live, they are one of the most stylish bands around, I'm grinding my teeth because they're during in Europe during this summer and i invested all my money into plane tickets to LA so i wont get the chance to see them live myself this summer. But if you haven't yet then I suggest you check out their stuff, bunch on professionals really enjoying what they're doing. (BTW is it just me or hasn't Paul aged at all? Got to love Damon for luring him away from painting XD)
