Sex Pistols star Johnny Rotten is embroiled in a family feud following his father's death on Friday night (25.01.08).

The 52-year-old 'God Save The Queen' rocker, whose real name is John Lydon, blames his father's long-term partner Mary Irwin for his death.

Lydon has vowed to "cut" Mary out of funeral arrangements because he believes his 74-year-old father's heart attack was caused by having an argument with Mary's son Gary from her first marriage.

Mary, 75, told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "John didn't want Gary to live with us. He called the police to say he wanted them to help him get rid of Gary. He then went outside and collapsed next to our fence. We tried to resuscitate him but it was too late.

"Doctors later told us he has a bad heart. He had been on blood pressure tablets for 25 years and had high cholesterol.

"John said to me, 'How can a fit man die of a heart attack?' He was really aggressive and implied it was my fault. I ended up putting the phone down on him. My John was not a fit man, he was ill. His mind was going too. I think John is trying to cut me out now. It's just too awful for words."

As well as banning Mary and Gary from being involved with any funeral arrangements, Lydon has also reportedly ordered doctors not to give them any details of his father's post-mortem.

A spokesperson for Lydon, who is currently flying back to Britain from Los Angeles, could not be reached for comment.

OMG I am soooo upset for John, how AWFUL. It is normal to blame them though, he is just grieving and they need to let him. Here at P&V our hearts, thoughts, prayers, and good vibes are with our Johnny. Thank you Fuggle for bringing this tragedy to our attention.

I was so very sorry to hear this sad news. John loved his father so - I suspect he's really, really hurting right now. I lost my beloved father many years ago, and I miss him to this day.

Guys, I would ask that no one post this on .net until Phil comes out with it.........he is working with Scott, Rambo and Johnny's official site now and they have not yet announced it so clearly Johnny just isn't ready yet............I am sure he is very unhappy that some family have spoken to the Sun.........he just doesn't need that now........

Someone over there has already posted it from The Sun. I am sure he was well meaning, and I am sure John will realize his fans just care so deeply about him that nothing else matters at this time. I am sure Phil will make the official annoucement when the time is right. We just love him and our hearts go out to him so much.

My heart and prayers are with John, and hopefully he will realize that this is no one's fault. Healthy men can randomly have heart attacks (my father, who is incredibly fit and has no heart condition at all) had a heart attack when I was 13 - he survived, but it does happen. It's normal for him to blame them, of course, because he loved his father dearly, but hopefully he sees that Mary loved his father very much.

yeah the shock of it can make people go into denial or look to blame someone. we dont know how true them stories are because that was in the sun newspaper, which is hardly a credible news source but you never know, it could be true. its not really news that john would want splashed all over national newspapers though.

It is a shame that newspapers seem to always try to make things sound as shocking as possible. I imagine John is used to it by now, but it still must be difficult to deal with.

Poor Mary probably isn't as used to having the news media trying to get a reaction of her. Plus if she and/or her son did argue with John right before the heart attack, she probably feels pretty guilty. I know I would. Doesn't really matter if it wasn't related - I think it is human nature to question whether or not you are to blame. Put that on top of losing the person you are in love with, having to tell his children what happened, wondering why you didn't just tell your son to get his own place, the press on the phone asking "how do you feel?". . . Well, she probably feels just awful. Can't really blame her for whatever frustration pours out.
