HOTEL DOCUMENTARY RECREATES SPUNGEN'S MURDER

The fatal stabbing of SEX PISTOLS rocker SID VICIOUS' American girlfriend has been recreated in a new documentary about New York's famed Chelsea Hotel.
Vicious and Nancy Spungen endured a tumultuous, drug-fuelled relationship which ended with her murder on 12 October 1978, at the hotel, where they were living at the time.
Spungen died from a single stab wound to her abdomen. Police traced the murder weapon to Vicious, who was immediately arrested for murder and later freed on bail. He died from a heroin overdose the following February (79), before he could be tried.
The film, Chelsea on the Rocks, will also follow the history of legendary hotel, home in its height to stars like Bob Dylan, Milos Forman, Mark Twain, Ethan Hawke and Grace Jones.
It will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on 23 May (08).
Filmmaker Abel Ferrera says, "I lived on the floor with the ghosts. I didn't come in with a point to it, so I just lived there and began filming. It's about the people that lived there, the ghosts, and the people that live there now."

It's an interesting project and I'm a big fan of Abel Ferrara's work so I'll be looking forward to it. Trouble is, judging by the pics released by the film company, it doesn't look very realistic and the guy that's playing Sid looks nothing like him.



Hopefully the story will redeem it somehow.

I am seriously getting tired of Sid and Nancy. It's like so totally 30 years ago. Why can't anyone just make another Kurt Cobain documentary. That would stir up some emotions. But this....is just sad and people shouldn't make money out of it.

Kurt should be left in peace too. He was a sad sad kid who had the courage to do something the world would deem cowardly.

As to Sid and Nancy, what worries me about them is the cult that seems to have sprung up around them. Obviously to me at least, Sid killed Nancy accidentally. She and he were both very much heroin addicts. Nothing to want to emulate. And yet you see so many young girls who want to emulate Nancy? WHY? There is even a SEVERELY mentally sick young woman saying she is Nancy re-incarnated! What kinda of SICK SHIT IS THIS?!? Nancy was a young woman John and the entire band wanted desperately to get Sid away from. Sid was a young man whose life ended because of his mis-actions. WHY ON EARTH would ANYONE in their RIGHT MIND want to be LIKE them? Sid and Nancy themselves desperately wanted out of the lives they had had fashioned for them. She was mentally ill from birth, he was severely neglected by his mother, introduced to drugs by his mother, and suffered the life consequences while she (his mother) lived to profit from his death. SAD SAD SAD PATHETIC. Those kids would have never wanted other children to emulate them. JOHN certainly has disdain and regret over the cult of Sid and Nancy. NOT the fault of the two dead kids, but the ENTIRE fault of the media and Alex Cox.
