Found this on a site in which people write about meeting famous people:
"Working in a large record store in I don't know, 1994? John Lydon walks in, orange hair and all. Whispers go around the staff. Walks up to my till with an enormous stack of CDs. I'm not saying a word here, just doing the work. So he gives me his gold Visa card at which I inwardly sneer (punk rock eh, Mr Rotten?). And then - joy of joys - his card is refused. Not only that, but the machine rings through to the operator on the other end. She tells me to keep the card and cut it up. Which I do. In front of him. I cut up Jonny Rotten's gold visa card. Then I hand him the phone so that the operator can have a word with "the gentleman". Apparently, he'd been in LA for the last six months and hadn't paid his bill."
-Oh and why do people associate Poor=punk rock? They never sang about how wrong it was to have money!

*deep intake of breath*
I just want to look at this objectively.
Here's the thing: they do that to everyone. If someone doesn't pay their credit card bill in six months, and then try to buy something, the operator dials in to the business and they get their credit card cut up, in front of them, in the store, and then receive a talking to from the operator. I've had to do it at a PIZZA PLACE I worked at in high school loads of times and it sucks, because people always get so mad. I've seen it happen to my friends, my friends' parents, etc. I've seen it happen loads of times. This is a regular occurrence.
To me, and this is only to me, this person doesn't sound spiteful. We all want to think that Johnny would pay his bills; but Johnny's human and he hadn't, if this story is true. I think it's just someone telling an interesting story, about the fact that Johnny isn't perfect, he is human, he made a mistake. He/She are just telling a story, trying to sound sarcastic and He/She's allowed to think what He/She thinks, it doesn't impact anybody but themself. I really don't care if he/she doesn't like John and I really don't care if he/she told this story out of spite or just to tell it because she thought it was funny or for attentiion. Granted, it's hard to tell how he/she was writing this because, 1) we don't know him/her or what he/she's like - he/she could be a perfectly pleasant person outside of this and 2) it's hard to interpret the emotions behind writing if it's not explicit. He/She could have written this sarcastically, to be funny, to be mean, to just tell the story, etc. It's just a story and He/She felt like telling it. Who knows?
Just because someone has to cut up a credit card doesn't make them a dickhead: by not paying your credit card bills, you are basically not paying businesses (that includes small businesses, restaurants, clothes stores etc) and that puts them in a financial crunch. When a card is rejected by the machine, trust me, all retailers will get angry, it doesn't matter who the customer is; it's a pain in the ass later on to work out that rejection from the machine slips; as well you have to cancel any purchase you put in on the actual register or till, and that can throw people off when they are counting down the till. So based on that, I think his/her "joy of joys" was sarcastic.
I just feel like I need to look at this objectively because I've been the assistant manager of a business that accepted credit cards and it's very difficult to deal with people who don't pay their bills, because while the business technically gets paid by the credit card company, the credit card company is then short whatever was not paid, which makes it harder for them to operate. I know I've gone without paying my credit card bills; I know a lot of people do. I know a lot of people have a LOT of credit card debt, not because they can't pay it, but because they forget about it. It's not about Johnny "deserving money". It sucks for businesses when people don't pay their credit card bills. Johnny made a mistake: he didn't pay his bill like he was supposed to. He's human, it happens. Hopefully he learned from it.
That being said, it could also be fake. And we don't have to pay attention to it.

I sold Mike Tyson (the ex world champion boxer) 3 ducati motorcycles + accessories, in the space of 1hr....total value = approx $48.000.00. He handed me his Amex card... and it declined! obviously becuase of the large amount, I had to talk to the amex rep and explain the situation and fast! becuase Tyson wanted to leave the store, Tyson just stared at me while I was on the phone, The rep says "his he with you right now?" I go "yeah" the rep says " don't panic! I will make this happen right now" In one transaction I sold $52.000.00 dollars worth of Italian merch!

[quote author= Great story Shonie, i would NOT want to tell Tyson no [/quote] Mike Tyson transaction Part 2..... Three days later Tyson returned to the shop with his posse to take the bikes / accessories. The bikes were not ready!!!! they still needed temp license plates (which we were out of) before he could ride them away. I had to tell him, 4 of his street thug entourage and two filthy skanky Ho's that he wouldn't be riding them today He went fucking nuts (and I sort of don't blame him because the shop owner should have had everything ready for him) Especially because a week before he had just bitten off part of Evander Holyfield ear! Tyson said to me " listen mother fucker, I'm riding those bikes outta here now! if I wasn't on probation....I would burn this motherfucking shop down to the ground" ;D He then lifted up my mate (the mechanic) by his neck and told him to "have the bikes ready fucking pronto". They all left the store, within half hour we had temp plates on the bikes and Tyson and his dirtbag posse left. Moral of the story it was the best $$$$ and WORST credit card transaction that I've ever had to do Two days later...I read in a newspaper and saw on the news that he had fallen off his bike on a freeway exit ramp and broke some ribs
