Well it has been 30 years since Sid passed.......a good kid that took a bad path. Maybe it was something he was born to, the way his Mother really gave him no chance. Hardship like that makes some people strong, but it made Sid a broken boy lost. It makes me sad, those who make him a hero. He might have thought that was cool back in the day but I would bet now he wouldn't. Sid was not a hero, just a young guy that made some bad choices. Maybe it is the rebel in him we are attracted to still. What I would like people to get from Sid was that he was a very human kid, had a good heart, loved having fun, loved music, loved his girlfriend as best he could, and loved gaining fans to the music. He loved the music. He never ceased, it seemed to me, a childlike amazement at people actually coming to see him and knowing who he was. He wanted to be liked but he wanted to give the impression that he didn't give a fuck (sounds kinda like someone else dear to us here at P & V ). RIP Sid. I hope there are no needles and no movie story tellers where you are now. Rock Hell wide open

I totally agree, that man went through more hardship in his (barely) 21 years than most people go through in a lifetime. But he had one HELL of a magnetic personality, and what he couldn't do on the bass, he made up for a thousandfold with his showmanship, and crazy recklessness that a lot of musicians just don't have...others may be able to play extremely well, but most lack Sid's showmanship...I first got into the Sex Pistols back in 1989, when I was 14, and the sheer raw POWER that I heard made me a lifelong fan. I will add that I am very glad to be here, on this forum....Thanks for making it possible!! I can see myself spending quite a bit of time here!!

You certainly could offer much to the fans on here that idolize Sid and Nancy for some reason. I know that they were lost kids, misunderstood, and I get that. I don't get the idol worship.

Yes, there are a lot of fans that idolize both Sid and Nancy, and it's my strong opinion that the movie "Sid and Nancy" (directed by Alex Cox, 1986) contributed somewhat to the phenomenon you're talking about. I agree that it is one thing to deeply love an artist and his or her music, which is the way I feel about Sid, and many other artists, especially AiC (and especially Layne, obviously)...but I don't "idolize" Layne...what I feel for him is different than the idolization you are referring to. Idolization has many levels and takes many forms, not all of it good regardless of the person's intentions.

I agree, I also don't understand teenagers today who "worship" Sid and Nancy...why? What do they know? Sid was a lovely person, everyone who knew him before he became a rockstar and a heroin addict said that. But he fell for the rock n roll image=/

Hence why they worship them. Very pathetic, but they seem to grow out of it eventually. Sometimes.
