Maybe not those two but I CAN see her as Marlene Deitrich or Greta Garbo. A woman of mystery that dances to the beat of her own drummer. Don't get me wrong at all I love Betty Bacall and the Bogey romance, and I loved funny little Veronica Lake, she was sexy, cute funny. But I think it is the tall woman of mystery that attracted John. Geez, though, I don't know WHO I would do if I had to pick a 40s girl. I like many of their looks but they wouldn't work on me. I do agree that the womanly shape is what I think would attract John, the woman that looks like a woman and not a pre-pubescent boy.[/quote]
Yeah, he makes a big deal in his autobiography of how she looked so different from any of the other punk/ hippie girls around; he says even now 'she doesn't follow fashion, she has her own thing'. Also, given John's love of the 40s look, it's interesting that he lives in Mae West's old house (or used to anyway,I read in the recent Mojo interview that he's moved). As an aside, Greta Garbo is/ was such a fascinating (and by some accounts not very nice) character. I bought a book on her and couldn't put it down. Even now she is still such an enigma.

I love that 40s and 50s fashion, it's so beautiful and the women were so natural then. I think it's a fantastic period too, not just for fashion but for film, literature, etc... and you are right, the women then actually looked like REAL women with figures, not like 13-year old boys like the fashion is today (no tits, no hips, bones sticking out, legs like matchsticks....   ) I think that kind of look might be making a comeback though, look at Dita von Teese   and i'm sure if you ask most guys they ultimately prefer someone who looks womanly rather than absolutely stick thin, in my opinion. Back to John (or John-related anyway), given Nora's unusual dress sense in most recent pix, I can't imagine her dressed like Veronica Lake or Lauren Bacall! Bet she looked great though!  I can't imagine her dressed like them either......she definitely has her own style and there have been very few outfits she has worn that I don't think look incredible. I would like to look like her NOW at my age, much less at her age, 65....just  |

I think Seaside might've actually posted a scan of it in the pictures section, she's wearing something striped or at least I recall some sort of heavy pattern, if that's the one then she definitely looks very different there, but the strong sense of style the lady on that picture has is enough to convince me that it's her. I never took her for a natural blonde though, her hair looks damaged, but then again I've never seen any dark roots so it must be true. PS! sistermidnite, I never said welcome, but I am extremely happy to see such a great (relatively) new poster, so a big warm belated WELCOME from me! |

The three of them certainly look like they all clothes shop at the same crazy wacked out place anyway  EDIT: found the pic. It must be her, cause the pic is from Chris Spedding's own archives according to the book, and I don't think he'd forget what a woman who he was with for 3 years looked like She looks better now imo. Dunno if her hair's naturally brunette like it is in this old pic but it doesn't suit her at all imo. |

Speaking of naturally blonde, unfortunately I am a natural blonde, I try my best to hide it:P I am 20 and I haven't had my real hair colour since I was 13 I think haha, it's been red, and it was black for years...now I have brown-red hair, but I don't think I will change it back to blonde until I get older. It's good to be blonde when you're old because the gray hairs are not that visible then haha I am rather short and curvy, and I am very happy with that! I HATE today's emo girls who look like boys, the boys who look like girls and most of all I loathe the fake blonde inflatable bitch silicon victims... |

Speaking of naturally blonde, unfortunately I am a natural blonde, I try my best to hide it:P I am 20 and I haven't had my real hair colour since I was 13 I think haha, it's been red, and it was black for years...now I have brown-red hair, but I don't think I will change it back to blonde until I get older. It's good to be blonde when you're old because the gray hairs are not that visible then haha I am rather short and curvy, and I am very happy with that! I HATE today's emo girls who look like boys, the boys who look like girls and most of all I loathe the fake blonde inflatable bitch silicon victims... I too am a natural blonde dyed darker! When I tell people that they don't believe me! I'd love to be really platinum blond but I'm not sadly. And yes I totally agree about hating emo girls/boys (they all look the same regardless of gender :  and silicon victims . I've ordered my friends to shoot me if I ever even think about turning into one of those. Ummmm.....this has very little to do with John and Groceries We're not even talking about Nora anymore Probably my fault  |
