These books are the ones that True Blood (on HBO) are based upon. Loosely based upon. There are many many differences and in some places the books lead as to being "better" and in others the TV show takes the larger portion of what is good. Personally I love both. Anyone else read these books?

I recently finished all of the books in the series. To be honest, when I first started reading them earlier this year, I was not impressed. Because I'm such a huge True Blood fan, I was so used to the graphic and sex drenched writing of Alan Ball that I was initially disappointed with Charlaine Harris' softer version. I remember barely making my way through the first 50 pages of Living Dead in Dallas before throwing in the towel. Some months later--after watching various co-workers chat about the books and feeling completely left out--I picked them up again. And I am so glad that I did. The first two didn't exactly grab my attention but by book 3, Club Dead, I was hooked. The action gets hotter, the characters richer, and the sex while it may not be as smutty as I would like, still melts my butter. The number one reason I love the books, of course, is Eric Northman. I love Alan Ball's version ( Alexander Skarsgard is one suave motherfucker!) and I'm crazy as hell about Charlaine's original. Eric is all about taking care of Eric. For a dead guy, he oozes personality unlike his lesser Bill (who is just as lame in the books as he is in the show. Seriously, why Sookie ever fell for him--besides the fact that he's a vamp--is beyond me). He's just a great character that I personally feel Mrs. Harris is just as infatuated with as her readers. By the way, if you start them and love Eric as well just wait until you get to book 4, Dead To The World. Be sure to read with a lover or other pleasure giving devices nearby. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Why Sookie would chose Bill, and why the series is seeming to focus around those two characters is becoming more and more beyond me. I hope the rest of the casting is as good as it has been though. Alexander Skarsgard is a RARE and DELECTABLE find. I love artist depictions of characters in books. Here are a couple of Sookie---one with Quinn the other with Eric
