Never thought I would say this, but I LOVE this series. I am nearly done reading it and I have to say great characters and extremely well written. While the movies have done well and are over all well done, they don't touch the books. Any other fans?

mmmmmmmmm just found THIS drawing. I would love to ask the artist if they intended it to imply that on a full moon now he would attack HER (in the best possible way )

While the movies have done well and are over all well done, they don't touch the books. Any other fans? I enjoy the Harry Potter books as well. I have all of them, but took a bit of a break from reading them. I just started reading the 6th book (Half-Blood Prince) last weekend. I had kind of forgotten just how good a read they are. I keep going to bed early just to sit up & read. While I know they were written as "children's" books, they don't talk down to kids. I actually started reading them because my mother kept talking about them & how she couldn't wait for the next book to come out. So, I suppose that they are really just for all ages. I agree that while the movies have been enjoyable, they don't match the books. However, I think that is generally true of most movies made from good books. It just isn't possible to get everything from the book onto the screen, so you will alway miss something. For instance, we just watched "The Hunt for Red October" again on TV the other night & while we enjoyed the movie we both remembered Bob staying up all night to finish reading the book, because he just couldn't put it down. Joan Oooo you just started the Half Blood Prince. I love that one, but I do think Deathly Hallows is my favorite. I really liked it. Some parts were really really sad, but I liked how it tied up all the loose ends. I can't wait for you to get to that one Joan Those books were like the crack of the literary world to me, I just could NOT stop reading. I think I read all 7 parts in one month

You were right!! I liked the Half Blood Prince - finished that & just finished Deathly Hallows & loved that one. I couldn't put it down. There were sad parts - even at the beginning (which I won't expand on in case anyone is still reading, or plans to). But I liked the pace of the book and liked the conclusion to the series.
I really like the way the author has developed & handled her lead character. Harry is not perfect & is not always right. He makes mistakes and even though the world is full of unbelievable things, it feels real.
I also agree with you that there some very interesting characters that you would like to know more about but don't have a chance to explore fully since this is Harry's story. Wonder if she will go back & write new books going into their lives & stories.
Curious to see if that would work out. I don't know if you have read any of the Anne Rice Lestat novels. But once she felt like she was done with his story, she put out several novels trying to give more back-story to some of the secondary characters. For me, none of those were as good as the original series.
Still, I think I'm going to miss Harry.

Joan I think I would like Professor Snape's whole story although you get pretty much of it in the books, and Bill/Fleur, more on them. There were so many characters to love in these books. I miss them too. I can't wait to see the movie in November maybe just to get my fix.
