Pretty Vacant used in advert

I just dunno what to make of it? Pretty Vacant is being used in an advert of bookmakers William Hill. WHY?
I just about got my head round the whole John Lydon butter thing (it was funding PIL's return after all)
The Sex Pistols fragrance this still has me stumped
But Pretty Vacant used in an advert??
Virgin (EMI) have advised that the 4 band members have been paid an undisclosed fee & each one has been given a free £500 bet by William Hill for a charity of their choice.

After all the tours they've done they surely cant need the money??
If they do wouldnt it be better to make money from releasing official videos & albums of concerts they have done?

We all know there's a thriving bootleg market out there. Most of us would give our right arms for a decent copy of Crystal Palace 2002 or a official release video of the Screen on The Green Midnight Special or many other recordings that could be cleaned up with a bit of quality studio equipment.

I'm disappointed, I know Virgin control the Sex Pistols back catalogue at the moment but does that mean they can do this sort of thing without the bands consent?

It would seem everyone has their price. I completely do not agree with songs that have real relevant meaning to people being used in ads. There is more than enough muzak being produced that could fill that order and not insult fans.

I just saw this I don't understand the decision either. And WHY is Pretty Vacant the one they just HAD to use ENOUGH with fucking with the Pistols catalog for commercial reasons

I heard the ad the other day on tv at a pub, I was surprised...I don't know enough about it to express an "intelligent" opinion but I don't like what's happening right now. The Sex Pistols perfume is a bit too over the top for me, I love perfumes and if I find it I will try it but I don't think I'll buy it. The thought that lots of Sid Vicious-crazy teenage girls will go around thinking that this perfume is punk, sickens me.

I don't like what's happening right now either. When I first saw the butter advert I was very surprised but I found it kinda funny + it helped PiL going on tour so I didn't mind it. I don't like the decision this time though and I agree that the perfume thing is a bit over the top too. I'd rather want them to release more meaningful things like official DVDs/albums of concerts they have done in the past. That would mean more to us 'real' fans instead of some perfume...... At least to me anyway. Julien Temple has loads of unreleased footage that I'd like to see btw.

I know, there is a lot of footage I'd like to see! They should put some effort into creating some rare footage dvd instead of interviews with people we have heard before and clips we've seen like a hundred times already...!
I don't mind the butter advert at all, I think it's the best and funniest commercial ever and Country life butter is the best butter here in England in my opinion:P
