Goodbye Jani Lane--Warrant

G*ddammit. Another one of the metal guys I knew in my 20s dead at 47. Jani fucking Lane. I remember watching an interview with a very bloated Jani some years back talking about how he wished he had shot himself in the head rather than record Cherry Pie. He felt that song, although a big hit, was the downfall of his credibility as a musician. He might have been right. I know I remember Jani as one of the most talented of the hair bands of the late 80s. The bands that Nirvana and Pearl Jam buried when Grunge was born. Jani had an amazing and unique voice that "fun" songs like Cherry Pie did not do justice. My favorite Warrant song was called Down Boys and it was off of their debut album, but I liked many of their songs. Love your idols folks, because you never know when you will hear their name in the next "has-been" celebrity obituary.

I was surprised at the amount of thumbs down I received when I RIP-ed this guy on the MSN news feed. I dunno if he was unpopular or if there were a lot of spammers around that day but I thought it was weird.

I used to have a huge poster of Jani in the Cherry Pie makeup on my bedroom wall years ago. I thought Warrant were okay.

Very sad to hear that but not surprised. For some reason many people vehemently hate the hair/makeup metal bands even today. I don't understand it. I mean it wasn't THEIR fault that they sold records andwere fun Go figure RIP Jani
