Things I learned from this book if it is a "true" account: 1. Sid has no care about the look (or apparently smell) of some of the groupies he screwed. 2. People in the South actually carried various pig parts with them to throw at the band  3. The cops pulled a gun on Johnny  4. John recieved oral sex from a drag queen  5. Johnny had a really,really bad cold  6. Sid had crabs  |

I'm pretty sure it's acurate, as most of it's backed up by Johnny in his book.
I bought this book at Powell's in Portland for like $5 and it was worth it. There were some truly hilarious parts. It was a great book to read just to read it and realize how weird/surreal that must have been for those minders!!
What did I learn? Sid was really, really, really nasty and had no sense of hygeine.
And he vomited/shitted on a groupie AT THE SAME TIME. That takes talent, folks.

Forgot to add that. I mean ewwwwwwwwwwwwww Nothing about Sid being handcuffed to any of them though and I know that happened (well I don't know but it has been mentiond in several other books) and there were a few details (mostly the beginning how they met stuff) that was off (like John met the band via talking to them in the shop) I am still in mild shock over the drag queen/blow job/urination thing. again ewwwwwww (on the urination part). What confused me was: 1. The author was not there for this so who reported it back to him? 2. The book said John got up and there was this drag queen right there on their knees. Umm wouldn't they still have to get John's pants open? 3. It probably happened but in the open? Like that? Seems un-Johnny like (given that he is morbidly shy) course they were drug taker/drinkers so who knows And yes Sid with crabs and no showers...umm I think I'll pass thanks |

Crabs are a form of body lice. Larger than head lice, they burrow into your skin.....  The book does mention Sid being handcuffed to one of the guys.....I am pretty sure it is there...... John has confirmed the attempted blow job from the transvestite Sid was one nasty kid  , bless his heart. |

Crabs are usually some form of STD...usually. Not always, but ... usually. You don't want them. ... Ever.
I was going to add that John confirmed the transvestite story, so I don't think the author made it up, but Snoogs did that for me.

Most of the focus is on Sid & the problems the road manager had trying to keep him under control. It certainly doesn't make it sound very enjoyable to have been on the road with Sid. I liked the book mainly because it provided a slightly different perspective - how the American record company viewed & tried to deal with the band. However, the author talks himself up just a little too much for the book to be a really good read for me. I still like John's comment in his own book about the US tour the best: "I shared the cover of Rolling Stone with Willie Nelson, and here I am broke, hungry, stuck on a bus, dehydrated - with a junkie."Gives you the picture in one sentence. John is good at that. [As previously mentioned, John does confirm the blow job incident - though he talks about this taking place in a private booth at the back of the club where you watched porn flicks so long as you kept adding quarters to keep the film going. And he did say he got thrown out because he "pissed in someone's mouth"] Joan |
