I love this book, because I feel like John has a lot to say for himself and I agree with his opinions on class. But what I have to remind myself, is the book was written BEFORE the Sex Pistols rejoined for their first tour (1996) so while I feel most of it is "true," I feel like a lot of it is bias. I know that's sort of Heresy in the John Rotten fandom, but I feel like John is, like I am, someone driven by their emotions. Example: when shit goes down, I go by what my heart tells me - and it's not always right. And feel like that's the way John is too. The things he says are driven more by emotions, and less by facts; he's an emotional person. So in some ways, I feel like this is the most honest book ever written; however, I don't think it's the most unbiased... if that makes sense. Most interesting thing: John Grey. I love hearing about about pre-teen John. Something about that stage of his life is REALLY interesting to me. Probably because he doesn't talk about it that much. So, just to reiterate: i love john, i agree with him, but I wouldn't say the book is "the truth." It's the truth to him, but maybe not to other people. Because other people in the book contradict him in the things that say. lol. Just my thoughts though. Still love the man.

Oh definitely biased. John really can only tell it from his point of view though. I say jokingly that he always has the last word, whether he is right or not. I think HE really thinks that what he is says is exactly the way it is period. But that is why I have also read Glen's book, the book the road crew from America wrote, books on Malcolm, the other guys interviews etc. The truth IS out there......and no one is completely right or wrong, it is somewhere in between.........<------did any of that make sense? I doubt it. But that is why I am not a writer.... I think one of the fun things with reading everything possible, is sorting out for yourself (kinda like a twisted jury) just what you think for yourself is the truth..... .......er..... ....I need to just shut up now before I confuse myself

I haven't read it yet but I just ordered it So I had to ask it to my mother and she asked what book and I just started to laugh. I don't know, I just thought my parents think it would be funny so she had to guess what book it was. I told her it was an autobiography so she was guessing with all these questions like: "Is it a man or a woman?" And she was right "Is it like.. Johnny Rotten or something?" So I ordered it a few minutes ago and I'm very happy and very hyperactive. Sorry, I just had to share it with y'all.

I bought it at a bookstore here in America and I had gone with my mom and she was like "What are we looking for?" And I just mumbled because i was focused on FINDING it.

He also seems to have a mercurial personality. So it makes sense that his book would reflect that. He said himself that he doesn't think anyone should ever be fully understood. "Rotten" is fascinating as John's take on public events, and as a personal record of his background and upbringing. The man is witty as hell, and shows flashes of modesty (lol). He's a true original, which, for me, is one of the bravest things a person can be.

OK, double posting because I just have to say: I've been re-reading this book recently, and I just finished the part where John and Sid and Nancy go to that debutante's party...I was lmao at John's descriptions of how it was the only night he could actually stand Nancy because of how repulsive she was being....and John asking David Frost to dance? Another part that cracked me up was John describing his hate of things athletic when he was in school and the lengths he'd go to to avoid participating. I know exactly how he felt (I used to hate gym, too). Oh, one more: that Nora threw John's clothes out of the window???!!!! GAH NNO!

I know that John seems to be against all this hero worship stuff, ie, he would prob think we were ridiculous for wanting a piece of his clothing, but I love the stuff he used to wear. I can't help myself, Johnny, that's the way it is. I wonder if John has ever idolized anyone to the degree that he would want a memento from that person (ie, an autograph, or a piece of their history, etc). I have a friend who idolizes Abraham Lincoln and wants to buy one of his letters--is that any different than wanting to own a piece of John's clothing? It's in the spirit of historical and sociological interest, John, all right?

He has said so on many an occasion (he only really hated that in his early Pistols/PiL days when he kinda sorta had a chip on his shoulder)...........soooooooooooooo I think if he felt you wanted it because you loved him and had great affection for him (not so much idol worship) he would be flattered..... .........as to your friend, I can't blame him/her......Lincoln was the best President this country has ever had in my opinion......
