Well we kinda have to start with John's book. Unlike most egotistical self important stars, John didn't write a book filled with just his opinion. Well I mean there is PLENTY of that, but he got his friends, family, band mates, and wife to add to the book. They get sections, whole chapters, and tons of space. I enjoyed reading their take on a situation and then John coming in and telling the way HE saw it. The book pretty much stops before Public Image but I hear there WILL be a part two John includes pictures (with his own captions) from his private collection. ;D

I know, I was particularly interested in Nora's sections too I thnk John would have been a great Dad.....too bad he never had that chance.... Rambo's paragraphs here and there were more about football than John But I did like reading about the early fights were John would get jumped and even back then Rammy would come in and get his back Chrissie Hynde had some good insights and memories too....I loved the story about how she nearly married John as well as Sid...

John backed out and sent Sid in his place but it was a Bank Holiday weekend and the registry office was closed when they turned up.

John backed out and sent Sid in his place but it was a Bank Holiday weekend and the registry office was closed when they turned up. I KNOW, I loved how Chrissie told of having to find John to hold up the bargain. Sid asked what was going on, she told him, and he stood up all pissed and said something to the effect of "I KNOW what YOU are up to , you just want to marry him cause he is a star, then you will get PREGNANT and he will be trapped...." Everyone was appalled that Sid had said that, then Sid calmed down and said to Chrissie "Okay I will DO it , what are you going to give me if I do?"..... ......I laughed my ass off at that........

What was, if anything, the most surprising thing (or just most interesting thing) you learned about John from reading this book?

What was, if anything, the most surprising thing (or just most interesting thing) you learned about John from reading this book? I thought I'd check the board before going to bed and now i can't go because i started pondering about this question, I wish I read the book more recently because I bet there were a lot more surprising things than I can think of at the moment. But I have to say the thing I was most shocked about were the affidavits, I had no idea everyone had such a different perception of the situation because back when i read the book I'd only heard John's version (which i believe to be the most accurate one to this day). There wasn't anything in the book about John's character that surprised me, but i was bothered about how he was treated back in the day, I had no idea it was that bad, oh and how Sid was described, it's difficult for me to believe anyone could be that into fashion and his image. trying to pick the most interesting part is quite impossible, but I do like the chapters written by John Gray, John senior and Nora. But I like that question I'll have to flip trough the book again and think about it some more.

Well I must admit when I first read John's book I didn't know alot about him...... .......SOOOOOOOOOO the most surprising thing I learned from it was that he had Miss Nora Yes yes I DO feel stupid in retrospect , but I just didn't know much about his personal life The most interesting things, besides that, was reading HIS perspective of the US tour...I had only read the roadies version of events previously ...and his account of when he was sick with meningitis...heart-wrenching

I am finished with the book and I must say that I have learned SO MUCH about Johnny and the Pistols.....I really loved the chapter describing their tour in the South....and Texas....It was so funny to read about their hijinks with the rednecks and all of the fun John had just driving from city to city.....not being able to close his eyes because he didn't want to miss anything..... The second thing that really got to me was just how badly Malcolm treated Johnny......I want to believe he had his best interests at heart....but IMO...I think he was guilty as charged....He may be okay now....but picturing him as he was portrayed in the book.....UGH!!! it just left a bad taste in my mouth....... I really enjoyed the chapter where they took turns describing the songs.....That was really fun to read all of their opinions on them... Lastly...I would just like to say that I LOVED Johnny's discussion on class and segregation issues......He told it like it was and he really spelled it out quite clearly about what is right and wrong with our society today.....He is quite the visionary.....He could see where sordid excess could lead to..... This book is a wealth of information about Johnny and the Pistols...It was quite a joy to read....and I know I will re-read it again.......

Since Malcolm's behavior got to you too I don't feel so weird about being devastated about it, before reading it never imagined people like that exist, being naive is such a luxury Still keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be turned into a movie someday. Now I feel like re-re-reading it. XD
